In the throes of cold, gray winter, we’re all looking for a sunny weekend escape! Those who want comfort, luxury, and dedicated five-star service along with a superb prime location need look no further than The Maybourne Beverly Hills, a curated oasis of art and design offering a sophisticated and sublimely relaxing escape in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

Located in Beverly Hills’ famed Golden Triangle in the very heart of the city, The Maybourne Beverly Hills perfectly reflects California’s contemporary-chic style and relaxed spirit. The sprawling property is conveniently situated just steps from Rodeo Drive, and it offers guests everything from gourmet food to luxurious spa amenities to a stunning rooftop pool. Part of the world-renowned Maybourne Hotel Group which owns some of London’s most legendary hotels (including Claridge’s, The Connaught, and The Berkeley), The Maybourne Beverly Hills is the first North American property in the portfolio, and it reflects an intriguing blend of its sister properties’ extraordinary, personalized service and amenities with its very own spin on the California-cool vibe. The staff here are gracious, warm, and welcoming, and everyone seems eager to make your stay as perfect and as memorable as possible.

Checking into the Maybourne Beverly Hills for a weekend means not really needing (or wanting) to leave. The Balcony Room is the one to book: a spacious, light-filled room boasting a large sun-dappled balcony overlooking the fragrant foliage of the peaceful Beverly Cañon Gardens filled with swaying palm trees. The room’s interiors are designed in warm hues meant to resemble the iconic golden hour in LA—think baby pink, sherbet orange and pale yellows—and round interior accents that pay homage to the sun with furnishings that reflect the quintessential southern Californian lifestyle mixed with European flair,  a perfect balance of classic design and contemporary comfort.

Highly collectible artworks, sumptuous marble bathrooms and mid-century classic furniture provide the most luxurious finishing touches to the space. You will find that The Maybourne truly thrives in detail, and it seems that nothing is overlooked, from the perfectly-curated mini bar filled with snacks from California-based companies (that also includes cordless iPhone chargers), to the fresh-cut flowers placed in sleek glass vases around the room, to the Frette 1860 bathrobes, and even a Dyson hairdryer that you can purchase directly from the hotel at the end of your stay.

While it’s extremely tempting to just luxuriate in the comfort of your room all day and order room service from the incredibly large In-Room Dining menu (which should be done at least once during your stay), the California sunshine is calling! On the roof, you’ll find a luxurious cabana-lined pool and rooftop restaurant with views across the iconic Hollywood Hills. Even in the dead of winter, the sun is still hot here. (If you find yourself in need of a swimsuit, you don’t even have to venture out to Rodeo to find it—the spa boutique sells very chic suits from beloved designers like Norma Kamali.) Whether you choose a chaise lounge, a private cabana, or a table in the shade, the poolside service is impeccable. Order one of The Maybourne’s fresh juices (the Green Juice is sweet and refreshing, while The Maybourne Elixir has a turmeric and black pepper kick), or perhaps one of the rooftop’s signature cocktails, like the Kung Fu Pandan, the hotel’s insta-worthy rendition of an Aperol Spritz made with rosé champagne.

In March 2023, the Maybourne rooftop will be welcoming legendary New York City restaurant and aperitivo bar Dante NYC with the opening of Dante Beverly Hills. A rooftop destination for poolside dining and late-night drinking, Dante Beverly Hills will bring its award-winning cocktails and menu of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine to Los Angeles. This outpost will be Dante’s first pop up location outside of New York City. The Maybourne Beverly Hills’ guests will enjoy sipping Dante signatures like the Negroni Bianco, the Seville Spritz, and the iconic Dante Martini against the stunning backdrop of the Hollywood hills.

After a few hours in the sun, head down to The Spa for some pampering, which, spanning two floors and over 20,000 square feet, is the largest facility in downtown Los Angeles. This stunning Moroccan-inspired eden has 17 treatment rooms, soaring mosaics, a sky-lit ceiling, a serene mineral immersion pool, jacuzzis, saunas, and steam rooms. A spa menu of holistic treatments, exceptional massages, and reenergizing facials will relieve weary muscles and bring out your skin’s inner glow. Next door, the large and incredibly chic fitness center offers leather and wood weights and equipment from PENT, Peloton bikes, and a Pilates reformer.

If you’re exploring the hotel grounds, make sure to take a walk through the indoor public spaces and enjoy the incredible artwork. Like all hotels in the Maybourne Hotel Group portfolio, The Maybourne Beverly Hills features an impressive art collection that makes the property feel almost like an immersive art gallery. The collection celebrates artists from California, including Mary McCartney, Kort Havens, Jennifer Guidi, Ed Ruscha, Mary Weatherford and more. In addition, there are also works by international names like Damien Hirst, Petra Rös-Nickel, Nelson Makamo, Brian Clarke, and Harmony Korine.

It might be hard to decide which restaurant or bar to try first—they are all splendid—but the lovely alfresco eatery The Terrace is not to be missed. A light and airy space with the charm of a European piazza that overlooks the lawns of Beverly Canon Gardens, here chic white umbrellas shade diners from the California sun while they enjoy a seasonal all-day menu of eclectic Mediterranean-meets-American cuisine, coffee, fresh juices, cocktails, and wine. Though every meal in this gorgeous setting is sublime, breakfast here is exceptionally buzzy. The restaurant is a veritable who’s who of Hollywood, with guests and Beverly Hills residents rubbing shoulders over morning coffee.

The large breakfast menu boasts fresh juices, baked goods, savory egg dishes and much more, but the fluffy butterscotch pancakes are the star of the show here. (When ordered during room service, they’re just as good—served with extra butterscotch sauce and fresh warmed maple syrup on the side.)

Just inside, the casual-yet-chic Maybourne Café is a perfect spot to grab a coffee or quick meal, yet you might be tempted to stay awhile or perhaps even settle in with your laptop to do some work. This is European-meets-Californian café culture at its finest. Ice teas, fresh juices, coffees, and cocktails provide relief and refreshment from the warm glow of the westward sun. This is the place to enjoy a casual lunch in the shade of the colonnade and people watch as hotel guests come and go.

Though Beverly Hills is filled with buzzy bars and cocktail lounges, nothing quite beats The Maybourne’s gorgeous lobby bar. Designed by world-renowned interior designer André Fu, The Maybourne Bar is an intimate space nestled in the hotel lobby with an exceptional wine list and large drink menu filled with both classic and bespoke cocktails. The Maybourne Bar excels in creating a space that somehow feels like both a respite from the outside world and a true social hub at the same time.

The bar’s menu of incredibly unique and bespoke creations changes every few months and is overseen by Chris Amirault, the award-winning Head Mixologist of The Maybourne Beverly Hills. Coming from a biracial family, Amirault draws inspiration from Los Angeles’ nature as a cultural melting pot, taking ingredients from his Asian heritage and blending them with other flavors he encounters throughout the city.

His cocktail style is unique, experimental, and—like LA itself—ever-changing, born out of an endless curiosity for the city he calls home. Amirault’s creations are all worth a try, though a few of his cocktails have quickly become Maybourne Beverly Hills signatures. The Maybourne Martini is a refreshing take on the classic cocktail, made with gin, clarified cucumber, and dry vermouth, while No Problemo is a delicious, spicy twist on the margarita, switching out tequila for mezcal and adding pineapple and poblano agave.

If you’re more of a whiskey person, then you must book a tasting at The Maybourne’s Cigar and Whiskey Bar, a hidden speakeasy-type space that’s home to one of the worlds’ most exclusive whiskey and cigar collections. This sleek and sexy space boasts a humidor with over 1,000 cigars and a truly impressive whiskey list that includes special reserves from the Scottish Highlands and premier Japanese distilleries. One of just three destinations in Beverly Hills where smoking is permitted, the bar invites guests to relax in the dimly lit wood-paneled den or on the private outdoor terrace, overlooking tranquil gardens.

After a few days of The Maybourne Beverly Hills’ incredible personalized service, luxurious amenities and outstanding cuisine and drinks, you might realize you didn’t even need to leave the hotel at all—and that’s exactly why you should go. A city as sprawling and lively as Los Angeles can feel a bit overwhelming, but The Maybourne somehow imbues a sense of hospitality so warm and welcoming that it feels like home—if home was an incredibly chic oasis of California cool in the center of Beverly Hills.
