This landmark resort, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, is fresh off a multi-million renovation—spearheaded by Los Angeles-based designer and architect Dianna Wong—and now reflects an appealing mix of five-star luxury and laid-back surf culture. Turtle Bay boasts newly-refurbished rooms, two new restaurants and a bar, along with an updated lobby, new pools and a new row of swanky waterfront Ocean Bungalows. The final amenity to be completed will be their newly rejuvenated 11,000 square-foot spa, with its unveiling in Spring 2023.

The resort has a total of 450 accommodations, all outfitted in golden hues and ocean blues, including the 42 more secluded Ocean Bungalow rooms and the 26 Ocean View Suites, spacious rooms located at the end of each wing with superior scenic views across the lush Hawaiian landscape. The new Ocean Bungalows can sleep from 3-6 guests and each features an elegant, naturalistic design to allow the natural splendor of the North Shore to shine through the decor. These exclusive rooms also feature private infinity pools, dedicated VIP service, soaking tubs, and walk-in showers. Guests of the bungalows are also granted exclusive access to the Ocean Club Lounge, a private space that offers a warm and inviting ambiance in which to enjoy breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages, all with sweeping views of the stunning ocean.

Turtle Bay Resort’s true draw is the myriad of water activities available, including four pools: the family-friendly Maine Resort pool and Keiki pool with water slides, the chic, laid-back Ocean Bungalows pool (exclusive to guests of the Ocean Bungalows), and the Adults-Only infinity-style pool and hot tub. Chic, airy pool cabanas are available for rental via the resort’s concierge service, and there is also a lovely Sunset Pool Bar, perfect for late afternoon cocktails to cap off a glorious day of sunbathing and swimming. The resort is also close to many of the North Shore’s famous beaches, both large and small, including the popular Kuilima Beach (which is just steps from the resort), and the picturesque Kawela Bay.

Turtle Bay boasts multiple restaurants and dining options throughout the property, ranging from casual pool-side dining to candle-lit dinners on the sand. The more formal Alaia restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner and offers a menu featuring sustainable Hawaiian produce from the resort’s on-site farm. Beach House by Roy Yamaguchi is a 140-seat open air restaurant featuring Hawaii-inspired Euro-Asian cuisine, and Off the Lip is a lively bar with live nightly entertainment, cocktails, and shareable bites. It has also just recently started a weekly “Paniolo Pāʻina” dinner which celebrates the rich cultural tradition of Hawaiian ranching and pays homage to the Hawaiian cowboy heritage with roasted pig, and delicious eats including vegetarian options, welcome cocktails, and live entertainment. Plus, fun activities for the whole family, including a pony meet and greet and hula lessons. The highlight of any visit is to experience a Hawaiian Paniolo Dinner.

Turtle Bay’s wellness options include a large state-of-the-art fitness center, fitness classes with one complimentary class per day included in the resort fee, and its highly-anticipated luxurious new Nalu Spa set to reopen in 2023, which will offer treatments that use pure, sustainable, and natural ingredients in a truly superb and unparalleled setting beyond imagination, where the large swells of the ocean are visible just beneath your feet.
