Art Takes Center Stage at The Fifth Avenue Hotel During Frieze NYC

April 9, 2025 by Hidden Doorways

This May, The Fifth Avenue Hotel transforms into a cultural hub during Frieze New York, hosting a series of exclusive art events to coincide with the annual show. “A good work of art is nice to look at; a great work of art has something to say,” explains the hotel’s Director of Cultural Programming, a philosophy that guides The Fifth’s approach to artistic experiences.

The NoMad property has partnered with prestigious institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, Performa, Kasmin Gallery, and The High Museum of Art to create intimate experiences that connect guests with leading artists and curators. These special programs – available exclusively to hotel guests – complement The Fifth’s own remarkable collection of over 700 contemporary and antique pieces from around the world, designed to ignite guests’ imaginations and challenge their perspectives.

Starting next month, guests can also experience “The Art of Discovery,” a unique offering that combines a guided tour of the hotel’s collection with a curated visit to The Whitney Museum of American Art and a sommelier-selected wine tasting.

2025 DAVID C. DRISKELL PRIZE ANNOUNCEMENT

co-hosted with The High Museum of Art

Friday, May 9 from 7 – 9 PM

Established by The High Museum of Art in 2005, the David C. Driskell Prize in African American Art and Art History recognizes field-defining contributions to African American art by some of the leading scholars and artists from around the country. The recipient of the 2025 Driskell Prize will be announced at the event and will join last year’s winner Naomi Beckwith, Chief Curator and Deputy Director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, for a conversation, followed by a celebratory reception.  Named in honor of the late artist and scholar David C. Driskell, this prize is the first in the country to recognize the importance of African American art. Acknowledging Driskell’s own extraordinary gifts as both a historian and an artist, the  prize annually alternates between awarding a practicing US-based African American artist and an art historian whose artistic practice or scholarly work makes an original and important contribution to the visual arts and study of African American art. The recipient of the prize receives $50,000 in unrestricted funds to use toward the furthering of their research or artistic practice.
