Introducing The Chic Dupont Circle in Washington D.C.
June 22, 2021 by Perrie Hartz
The Dupont Circle is a stunning newly renovated 327-room property situated in the very heart of one of Washington D.C.’s most popular and lively neighborhoods. With a vibrant dining and nightlife scene, Dupont Circle’s Connecticut Avenue is dotted with cafes, quaint coffee shops, and famous bookstores. Nearby, rows of historic and stately Gilded Age-era mansions-turned Embassy houses line Massachusetts Avenue, and the impressive and unmissable Phillips Collection of impressionist and modern paintings is housed in a stunning Georgian Revival style estate.
After recently undergoing an incredible renovation just last year, The Dupont Circle has been dramatically transformed by its owner, Bernie Gallagher, the Chairman of The Doyle Collection, in collaboration with world-renowned designers Martin Brudnizki and the New York-based Clodagh, who have lovingly restored this historic building to its former glory, while also imbuing it with a new, sleek, modern aesthetic. The hotel’s perfect blend of classic Golden Age glamour with sophisticated modernity celebrates a new era of luxury hospitality while still paying homage to the building’s mid-century beginnings. Now, The Dupont Circle Hotel revels in its newness and takes full advantage of its surroundings with a sprawling outdoor terrace set against lush landscaping and facing the stunning 19th-century mansions of D.C.’s Gilded Age elite.
As a part of family-owned Irish luxury hotel group The Doyle collection’s impressive portfolio, The Dupont Circle radiates warmth and intimacy, and demonstrates the Collection’s signature Irish hospitality, allowing the hotel to feel more like a beloved and elegant private home or exclusive members’ club. With luxurious amenities, sophisticated decor and panoramic views over the nation’s capital, The Dupont Circle has established itself as the true social hub of the bustling neighborhood it calls home, especially with its impressive eateries: the sparkling new Pembroke restaurant and the renown and recently-refurbished Doyle bar.
With boldly-colored furnishings (robin’s egg blue chairs create a stunning contrast against plush velvet peach banquettes; simple cream-paneled walls are dotted with playful artwork) and panoramic views of the charming neighborhood surroundings from it’s seasonal terrace garden, The Pembroke is a visually pleasing feast and Washington’s newest dining sensation. With an eclectic food menu of contemporary American and globally-influenced cuisine and a sleek marble-topped bar featuring classic cocktails and an impressive selection of wines, it’s no wonder that “The Pembroke makes Dupont Circle a destination again.”
Step off the sun-dappled, leafy terrace and right into the height of the Gilded Age’s glamorous cocktail culture at The Dupont Circle famed Doyle bar. An homage to the bars and lounges of the 1950s, Doyle has a classic wood-paneled interior with brass and leather-furnishings and large fireplaces, harkening back to a time when the glamorous elite would luxuriate on plush sofas and barstools, sipping ice-cold martinis in impeccable style. The drink menu at Doyle is inspired by the classic cocktails of the 1950’s and 1960s, and features well-known and beloved recipes along with new and playful interpretations, like a show-stopping barrel-aged Manhattan, and its signature Doyle G&T with house-made tonic water. Already a popular destination among well-heeled locals, the bar also offers a vast array of gin, rum, vodka, an impressive selection of Irish whiskeys, and a large wine list. Pair a classic cocktail with an equally classic bar snack like fresh oysters, Maryland jumbo lump crab cakes, or the Dupont prime aged burger with Irish cheddar, caramelized onion and smoked bacon.
The Dupont Circle is comprised of 327 spacious guest rooms (with 32 signature suites). All newly refurbished, the rooms have an airy feel, soft color palette of ivory and charcoal tones, and an open, modern design, yet still maintain the distinct 1950’s glamour reflected throughout the hotel. The interior decor weaves together contemporary chic with classic elegance, epitomizing the relaxed Irish sophistication that The Doyle Collection is known for. Each guest room is 300 square feet, and comes equip with 300 thread-count imported linens, a flexible work area, Nespresso coffee machines, complimentary bottled water, Malin + Goetz amenities, and European marble baths.
The jewel in the Dupont Circle’s crown is its new Penthouse Level, a floor made up exclusively of 13 of the most luxurious and spacious suites that reflect the relaxed, understated luxury of Ireland. The Penthouse Level can be reserved as an entire private floor with a reserved elevator, personal butler, and exclusive garage access. The suites range in style and size from Junior Suites with large open floor plans, to Park View Suites with stunning views over the park and Dupont Circle fountain, to Signature Terrace Suites with sweeping city views and incredible outdoor space. Each is unique and individually curated to meet the needs of even the most discerning of guests.
A sanctuary of luxury and opulence, the hotel’s show-stopping two-bedroom Grand Penthouse Suite offers absolutely spectacular views of the capital stretching all the way to the Washington Monument. It’s many incredible features include a lush, wrap-around heated garden terrace, a spacious lounge and chic fold-away cocktail bar, and private terraces and lounges in each bedroom. At almost 3,000 square feet, the truly remarkable Grand Penthouse Suite is one of the largest in the city.
The Dupont Circle is the perfect home base (albeit a very chic one) from which to explore one of the country’s most dynamic and interesting cities. Activities in the area include leisurely bike rides along the picturesque Potomac River, exploring D.C.’s ever-growing restaurant and bar scene, frequenting the local shops and farmers markets, and visiting the many famous museums and landmarks, from The Smithsonian to Arlington National Cemetery, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and of course, the most iconic of all: The White House.
