Your Parisian Pied-à-Terre, Maison Montespan
August 2, 2019 by Laura Fishman
There’s a certain je ne sais quoi about Paris. The City of Lights inspires joie de vivre, from the effervescence of the day to the glamour of the night. Whether discovering something new or revisiting beloved places, Paris is a reminder to remain in the moment. Because when we’re not in Paris, we’re probably dreaming of it.
Everyone can find something in Paris-from art aficionados and curious epicureans to culture hounds and history buffs. Musical mavens are in for a treat; as are travelers on the hunt for the creamiest brie, the freshest baguette and a decadent bottle of wine for a picnic along the Seine.
Finding the right residence is key to living your best Parisian life. Set on a residential street in the chic 16th arrondissement, Maison Montespan is your pied-à-terre for a truly Parisian experience. The neighborhood bustles with quaint cafés, family-owned boutiques, boulangeries and patisseries. Just a few steps away is the famed Trocadero, Avenue Victor Hugo and Bois de Boulogne.
Maison Montespan feels like home the moment you arrive. Full-service and exclusive-use, this quaint five-bedroom home spans across three floors. Though there’s no shortage of glamour: there’s a private rooftop and an indoor pool, too. A thoughtfully curated collection of contemporary and modern art is displayed throughout the home (and available for purchase). Floral arrangements by French and Japanese florist Miyoko bring in bursts of color.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by Ellyn, who looks over Maison Montespan, Baptiste, the gracious Butler, and the rest of the team. They’ll prepare for your arrival with special touches, like pre-stocking the kitchen with your favorite snacks. Prepare to wake up to the decadent smell of croissants baking and coffee brewing. They’ll prepare breakfast for you daily.
Designed by Parisian interior designer Thomas Lange, the property blends contemporary and 17th-century classical décor to create an intimate space. Lange adds intrigue with custom-designed pieces of furniture and modern accessories that would fit well at Milan’s Salone del Mobile.
The spacious bedrooms each have own aesthetic, plus well-appointed bathrooms with deep marble soaking tubs. The first floor has three bedrooms, while the third floor boasts the master bedrooms. For those hosting additional guests, three bedrooms can accommodate a crib and one can accommodate a rollaway bed. Each is equipped with air conditioning, Frédéric Malle products and modern comforts of Bluetooth music, Apple TV, on-demand movies and a safety deposit box. Le Petit Prince is there to welcome younger guests.
No request is too much for this team. Their hospitality is world-class, with backgrounds in the most prestigious Parisian hotels and palaces. Guests who seek privacy and discretion need not worry. The residence is equipped with the latest security technology and a panic button.
The home has a dining room on the second floor that can accommodate 10-12 guests for an event or a private dinner. Have the chef prepare a dinner party and bring in a pianist to entertain (there’s a Steinway piano in the living room.) There’s also a small cinema, a cardio gym, hammam and indoor pool on the ground floor. The private rooftop is perfect for those who prefer to dine al fresco, gather for sunset cocktails or host a dinner party with sweeping city views. There’s also a small terrace next to the kitchen for your morning cup of coffee.
For those who want to immerse themselves in the Parisian way of life, Maison Montespan has serious connections with local tastemakers. They have friends in all walks of life, including art, gastronomy, fashion and music. Bespoke excursions and behind-the-scenes experiences include an afternoon of gallery-hopping with artist Aude Herledan, shopping with French fashion designer Ionna Vautrin (who has collaborated with Christian Dior), wine tasting with Gabrielle Vizzavona or sharpening your knife skills with Michelin-awarded Chef Jean-Edern Hurstel of Edern. For those who prefer to entertain at home, acclaimed pianist, Ali Hierèche, is available to play exclusively for you.
For children, customized activities include:
•Private piano lessons
•Culinary workshops (making cream puffs, chocolate truffles, etc.) or artistic workshops led by artists or craftsmen
•Magic shows
•Introduction to yoga or combat sports in the private gym
•Bike, horse or pony rides, scooter rides or a tour in the famous vintage French 2CV
•Guided museum tours
•Fun-cultural treasure hunts
The founder, Alain Dublin, has a philosophy: “Staying in a foreign city as if you’ve always lived there is an absolute luxury for me.” At Maison Montespan, living in a private home that’s off-the-beaten-path, you truly feel the Parisian way of life. In short, it’s joie de vivre.
