Overview
Originally designed by Christian Liaigre, The Mercer completed a full renovation of its guestrooms and suites in 2026, conceived as a thoughtful evolution rather than a reinvention of the hotel's original aesthetic. Warm natural materials, an earthy palette and clean architectural lines create serene, light-filled spaces that feel more like private SoHo residences than traditional hotel rooms. The hotel's 73 loft-like rooms and suites occupy six floors of an 1890 Romanesque Revival building, once home to artists' lofts and studios.At the heart of the hotel is Sartiano's, where modern Italian dining brings together the hospitality of Zero Bond's Scott Sartiano, the culinary vision of James Beard Award-winning Chef and Culinary Director Alfred Portale, and the execution of Executive Chef Chris Eby. Inspired by the grandeur of Rome's Villa Borghese, Sartiano's is unmistakably sophisticated, with an open kitchen, Carrara marble bar, Hollywood-style banquettes and communal table. Guests can dine in the elegant downstairs dining room, enjoy a more casual experience at the off-lobby bar, or order from 24-hour in-room dining.
The Mercer experience is defined by discretion, highly personalized service and a genuine sense of home. Guests are welcomed with handwritten notes, rooms are still opened with real keys, and thoughtful preferences are remembered from one stay to the next. These deliberately personal touches reflect The Mercer's belief in recognition over ceremony and create an experience that feels warm and intuitive rather than formal. The lobby and its curated library are reserved exclusively for hotel guests, offering a private retreat from the energy of SoHo, while the concierge team provides thoughtful, individually tailored recommendations and access throughout New York.
Rather than keeping guests within the hotel's four walls, The Mercer considers SoHo an extension of the stay. The Mercer's 73 loft-like rooms and suites range from rooms and studios to loft suites and penthouses, along with newly configured two- and three-bedroom suites created from interconnecting rooms with shared foyers that sleep up to seven.The 2026 renovation brought hardwood floors, linen drapery, upholstered headboards and warm tones of olive, burgundy and leather to every room, along with redesigned Vermont Danby marble bathrooms with glass-enclosed walk-in showers. Many rooms retain the building's original character, from exposed brick and eleven-foot ceilings to arched windows overlooking SoHo's cast-iron streets. Rooms facing the private courtyard open onto Juliet balconies through French doors, and two Loft Suites feature working wood-burning fireplaces. The Penthouse and Courtyard Loft Suites now include walk-in closets, dressing rooms and wet bars.
In-room amenities include a curated minibar with complimentary soft drinks and snacks, 55" Smart TVs with Apple TV, Dyson hair dryers, La Bottega bath amenities and nightly turndown service, with Nespresso machines available upon request.
