Discover Collection Ras Amud

Overview

Few places arrive the way Ras Amud does. The final approach by boat across the still waters of the khor, with cliffs rising on all sides and the villas of Discover Collection emerging slowly from the stone of the cape, sets a tone that the rest of the stay only deepens. This is Oman's Musandam Peninsula, a region of fjord-like inlets, ancient mountain tracks, and marine life that has largely escaped the modern world's attention. Thirty-two residential-style villas, built from local stone and timber, sit quietly within this landscape, designed less to announce themselves than to disappear into it.

Perched at the northern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, Discover Collection Ras Amud occupies a private cape where the drama of the Hajar Mountains and the shimmering expanse of the Arabian Sea converge. At the heart of the property sits the Hara, a gathering place inspired by traditional Omani villages, organized around a Falaj watercourse and animated by the rituals of community life. An in-house roastery produces coffee ground and brewed to order, a boutique carries handcrafted goods by regional artisans, and the Atelier opens its doors to guests wanting to try their hand at pottery, woodcarving, and traditional silverwork.

Dining at Ras Amud is shaped by ingredients that are seasonal, local, organic, and wholesome. Umm Salem opens each evening as a celebration of Middle Eastern culinary traditions, its menu inspired by generations of regional cooking and reimagined with a progressive, contemporary touch. A Wine Cave adjoining the restaurant hosts private tastings and intimate dinners for small groups. In the Hara, the all-day Sufra dining room serves daily specials and fresh seafood alongside international classics, while the Discover Bar offers a terrace overlooking the sea and a bespoke cocktail list shaped by the season. Experiences woven through the week give dining its cultural dimension: baking Omani date bread beside a traditional tandoor, witnessing heritage recipes prepared at an intimate kitchen dinner, and joining local fishermen before returning to a shared table where the day's catch is cooked over open flame.

The waters around the cape reward those who enter them. A resident marine biologist leads kayaking, snorkeling, and diving into an ecosystem where dolphins navigate the khors, manta rays drift through clear shallows, and a local shipwreck hosts a flourishing concentration of marine life. In winter months, bioluminescent plankton illuminate the water after dark, and guests can paddle through the glow by kayak or simply swim into it.

On land, a resident geologist leads expeditions into the peninsula's ancient interior, interpreting the indigenous minerals, fossils, and rock formations that have shaped this landscape across millennia. Stargazing sessions with a resident astronomer, visits to Khasab Castle, Arabic language and cultural introductions, and art residency programming throughout the year round out an offering that treats the entire destination as a living classroom. Among the most memorable evenings available to guests is a night spent away from the property altogether, in a furnished Bedouin tent on a secluded private beach, with a candlelit dinner, traditional storytelling, and nothing overhead but stars. And for younger guests, the Academy provides its own dedicated world of discovery, with hands-on programming rooted in Omani culture and nature.

The property’s approach to wellbeing is as deliberate as the setting is remarkable. Treatment suites at the Sanctuary are carved directly into the rock, opening to unobstructed sea views. The philosophy is holistic in the fullest sense, and each guest's wellness journey begins before arrival with a consultation guided by the in-house practitioner. Visiting masters bring new healing modalities throughout the year, while aerial yoga at the tip of the peninsula, SUP yoga on the fjord, and restorative sound experiences across open-air energy points extend the practice well beyond the five treatment suites.

Discover Collection Ras Amud is one of two inaugural properties within Discover Collection, a private Members' community built around purpose-led travel and a deep respect for the destinations it calls home. Personal Curators accompany each stay from pre-arrival planning through departure, shaping itineraries, anticipating needs, and ensuring that the connection formed here extends well beyond checkout. The property's Local Impact Fund directs a percentage of gross operating revenue toward conservation, culture, and community priorities identified by the people who live in the Musandam region, and guests are invited to participate in those initiatives directly, whether through marine conservation work alongside the resident biologist or cultural programming developed in partnership with local artisans.

It is a model well suited to a place like this. The Musandam Peninsula receives few visitors, and Ras Amud is designed to keep it that way. Thirty-two villas, a community of resident experts, and a program built around genuine immersion in one of the Arabian Peninsula's most singular landscapes make for a stay that is difficult to categorize and harder still to forget.

Accommodations

All 32 villas at Discover Collection Ras Amud are positioned to face the sea, each one oriented to capture unobstructed views of the khors from every room. Built from local stone and timber, the architecture is deliberate in its restraint, drawing from the vernacular of the landscape rather than imposing upon it. Each villa extends outward through a separate living room that opens onto a private outdoor living area, where a firepit, infinity pool, and traditional Omani Summer House complete a space designed as much for evening gatherings as for quiet mornings alone.

The majority of villas occupy the seafront in one- and two-bedroom configurations. The 24 one-bedroom Seafront Pool Villas offer an intimate scale well suited to couples, each with a sea-view master suite, soaking tub by the window, and a ten-meter private infinity pool. Four two-bedroom Seafront Pool Villas expand the layout across two levels, each bedroom with its own bathroom and terrace access. The Panoramic Pool Villa offers two bedrooms across a single level with an exterior footprint of over 13,000 square feet and the widest possible outlook across the surrounding landscape.

Larger groups are well accommodated. The three-bedroom Seafront Pool Villa adds a fully equipped kitchen and BBQ terrace, while the four-bedroom configuration introduces a traditional Majlis lounge and a 18-meter pool with a shallow section for children. The Beachfront Pool Villa, the only villa with direct access to the water's edge, provides three bedrooms across two levels and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views.

Throughout all categories, bathrooms are conceived as personal wellbeing spaces, with soaking tubs positioned by the window, double-experience showers, walk-in dressing rooms, and outdoor rain showers. Each villa arrives stocked with a personally curated YourBar and a wellbeing basket, with daily sunset surprises and nightly turndown adding to the rhythm of a stay that is carefully tended from beginning to end.
